Description

Roco 6200296 H0 4-Car Passenger Car Set DRG Ep. II – Historic Three-Axle Prussian Cars of the Reichsbahn

Would you like to build an authentic Deutsche Reichsbahn passenger train on your H0 model railroad layout? The Roco 6200296 four-car passenger car set brings the unique atmosphere of German rail travel from Era II to your layout. The set consists of four three-axle passenger cars of Prussian designs, featuring different car classes and luggage compartments. The classic design, the various car types, and the interior fittings make this set an attractive addition to historic passenger trains. With a total length of 567 mm, it creates a distinctive group of cars that pairs perfectly with steam locomotives of the German Reichsbahn.

Prototype: Prussian three-axle passenger cars in DRG service

Three-axle passenger cars of Prussian designs shaped German rail transport for many years. Originally developed for the Prussian State Railways, many of these cars later became part of the Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft’s fleet. They were used primarily in regional passenger service and could be found on branch lines as well as on routes with shorter passenger trains. Their characteristic three-axle design and the various car classes reflect the development of passenger rail service at the beginning of the 20th century. The Roco car set draws on these traditional car designs and allows you to recreate a varied passenger train from Era II.

Four different passenger cars with historical classes

The Roco 6200296 car set combines four interesting passenger cars from the Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft. Included is a 2nd- and 3rd-class car, type BC3i pr05, which reflects the mixed level of travel comfort found on passenger trains of that era. The set is complemented by two 3rd- and 4th-class cars of the CD3itr pr07 and CD3itr pr07a types. Rounding out the set is a 4th-class passenger car, type D3itr pr08. This combination provides an interesting glimpse into the historical class system of the railroad and, thanks to the different car types, creates a varied train composition.

Luggage Compartments – A Distinctive Feature of Historic Passenger Service

Two cars in the set feature a luggage compartment: the CD3itr pr07 passenger car and the D3itr pr08 car. In the real-world prototype, these compartments were intended for passengers carrying larger or bulky items. They were thus among the practical features of early passenger rail service, particularly on regional routes. The different interior layouts make the car configuration particularly interesting. Thus, the Roco set not only allows you to recreate a historic passenger train but also to experience a slice of everyday railway life from the era of the Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft.

Interior Design & Classic Car Construction

All four Roco passenger cars are equipped with interior fittings. As a result, even upon closer inspection, the models offer an interesting glimpse into the historic passenger compartments. A particularly distinctive feature is the three-axle design, which differs significantly from later four-axle passenger cars. The various car classes and designs create a diverse set that really comes into its own when paired with historic station buildings and period-appropriate steam locomotives. For collectors of Prussian passenger cars and enthusiasts of Era II, this set offers an attractive opportunity to build a complete historic passenger train.

Model Technology & Close-Coupling Kinematics

The Roco 6200296 passenger car set is designed for H0 gauge at a scale of 1:87 and comes with wheel sets for DC two-wire operation. All four cars feature NEM 362 coupling sockets with close-coupling kinematics. This allows for the use of compatible close couplers, which ensure a harmonious car spacing within the set. The total length over buffers is 567 mm. The AC replacement wheel set (item number 6563) is intended for use on compatible AC center-wire systems. This allows the cars to be converted for use on corresponding H0 track systems.

The perfect complement to the Roco DRG Class 86 200 steam locomotive

The Roco passenger car set pairs particularly well with a Class 86 steam locomotive. This versatile tender locomotive was frequently used in regional passenger service in real life and fits perfectly with the historic character of the three-axle cars. The Roco BR 86 200 is available under item number 7100031 as an analog DC version, under 7110031 with DCC sound, and under 7120031 as an AC sound version. Together with the four passenger cars, this creates a characteristic DRG passenger train from Era II. This train set is particularly impressive on a historic branch line with small stations, rural stops, and classic platforms.

An attractive car set for DRG collectors and branch line enthusiasts

The Roco 6200296 combines four traditional Prussian passenger cars into a varied historical set. The different car classes, the characteristic three-axle design, and the two cars with luggage compartments give the set a special appeal. Thanks to the included interior fittings and close-coupling mechanism, the set is suitable for both discerning collectors and regular model railroad operation. This set is an excellent choice especially for enthusiasts of the Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft, fans of classic branch lines, and model railroaders focusing on Era II. Complete your historic passenger train with the Roco 6200296 and bring the fascinating atmosphere of the early Reichsbahn era to your H0 model railroad layout!
