With the Roco 6200323 Car Set 2 for the D 202 “Loreley-Express,” you can expand your H0 model railroad with three distinctive Era IV express train cars. The set consists of one 1st- and 2nd-class car and two 2nd-class cars. The different car variants reflect typical features of international express train service in the 1980s. Of particular interest are the through cars from Chur and Rome, the different bogie designs, and the included additional train destination signs. This makes the set a perfect addition for recreating the historic Loreley-Express.
For nearly 40 years, the D 202 “Loreley Express” provided a high-quality express train service between Basel and Amsterdam. Passengers could comfortably travel through three countries on this route in less than half a day. The train offered seating in both first and second class, making it part of the Deutsche Bundesbahn’s international passenger service.
A special feature was the additional through cars from Rome, Chiasso, and Chur. They expanded the service to include further international car runs and ensured varied train formations. The journey followed the legendary Rhine River, with the train always hauled by Class 110 locomotives. North of Emmerich, the Dutch railway took over traction.
With the Roco Loreley Express Car Set 2, you can further enhance this historic route on your H0 layout and recreate the characteristic cars of international express train service.
The Roco 6200323 set includes one 1st- and 2nd-class car of the ABm 225 type, as well as two 2nd-class cars of the Bm 234 type. Each car contributes to the unique composition of the Loreley Express.
The ABm 225 is designed as a through car originating from Chur. Thus, the model reflects one of the additional car routes that defined the international character of the D 202. One of the two Bm 234 cars represents the first car built, with the road number 22-41 000. This car is designated as a through car from Rome and adds another historic route to the formation.
Also of particular interest is the different bogie configurations of the two Bm 234 cars. This means the two cars differ not only in their respective assignments but also in a specific design feature of their undercarriage.
Do you value the characteristic lettering and paint schemes of the Deutsche Bundesbahn? The passenger cars of the Loreley-Express correspond to the frequently requested 1980s design. During this period, numerous cars were still in service with the traditional green paint scheme but already featured modernized lettering elements.
The two green-painted cars in this set feature pictograms and new, large class numbers. This design combines the traditional look of the Bundesbahn with the changes that had already been made to the car lettering.
It is precisely this combination that makes the models appealing to collectors of Era IV. The cars reflect a specific stage of development in which older paint schemes and newer markings together shaped their appearance.
A special feature of the Roco 6200323 is the included second set of train route signs. This set is intended to extend the Loreley Express to a total of ten cars. Thus, the set explicitly allows for the creation of a more extensive train formation.
When combined with Roco’s first Loreley Express car set, item number 6200322, you can expand the formation with additional cars. The second set adds the extra seating cars and the through-service car variants from Chur and Rome.
In keeping with the historical prototype, a Class 110 electric locomotive is the ideal choice for hauling the train. This allows you to recreate the Deutsche Bundesbahn’s international express train service along the Rhine on your model railroad.
All three express train cars are equipped with interior furnishings. This ensures that the models’ design is carried through into the passenger compartment as well. Interior lighting can be retrofitted as needed. The Roco interior lighting set with part number 40420 is recommended for this purpose.
The cars also feature NEM 362 coupler sockets with close-coupling kinematics. The corresponding technical specifications and dimensions are listed in the “Features” section.
The Roco 6200323 Car Set 2 combines three different express train cars with distinctive lettering, special route designations, and various bogie configurations. The traditional green paint scheme with modernized class numbers underscores the connection to passenger rail service of the 1980s.
Whether you want to further complete the D 202 “Loreley-Express” or expand your collection with three select DB express train cars, this set offers an interesting combination.
Expand your Era IV international express train! Order the Roco 6200323 Loreley-Express Car Set 2 and add three more distinctive Deutsche Bundesbahn passenger cars to your H0 model railroad.
