The Roco 6280006 double-decker coach set is a high-quality replica of double-decker coaches of the Deutsche Reichsbahn (DR) from Era IV. The set consists of a 2nd class double-decker car, class DBmue, and a 2nd class double-decker control car, class DBmq. These cars, developed by VEB Waggonbau Görlitz, were used from 1974 in the southern metropolitan areas and on heavily frequented routes and offered a flexible solution for adapting to changing passenger numbers. They were an important element in local transport and were appreciated for their efficient design.
In 1971, VEB Waggonbau Görlitz delivered two prototypes of double-decker single-deck coaches to the Deutsche Reichsbahn. These carriages were specially designed to increase the capacity of local transport on busy routes. The double-decker design meant that more passengers could be accommodated in the same space. Series production of around 138 vehicles began in 1974, which were mainly used on routes in southern Germany. The lower floor of the coaches was fully equipped with seats, which significantly increased passenger comfort.
The model set consists of a 2nd class double-decker coach and a 2nd class double-decker control car. Both coaches are equipped with an interior that reproduces the passenger compartment in detail. The length over buffers (LüP) is 446 mm, which makes the set ideal for TT layouts. The control car is equipped with a function decoder that enables a light change depending on the direction of travel (white/red) in both analog and digital operation.
The cars have close coupling kinematics in accordance with NEM 358, which ensures a stable and prototypical set of cars. The 3 headlights and the 2 tail lights on the driving trailer are also dependent on the direction of travel and offer a high degree of realism. For even more detail, interior lighting can be retrofitted, which sets the model perfectly in scene even when driving at night.
The Roco 6280006 double-decker coach set is fully compatible with the double-decker coach set 2 (item no. 6280007), which is available separately. By combining both sets, longer trains can be realized that perfectly reproduce the typical double-decker traffic of the Deutsche Reichsbahn. Thanks to the modern digital technology and the easy retrofitting of interior lighting, this set is an excellent choice for both beginners and experienced model railroaders.
