Description

Consisting of a class F2 boxcar of the Bulgarian State Railways (BDZ), a class Isfw open boxcar of the Romanian State Railways (CFR), a class Zt boxcar of the Czechoslovak State Railways (CSD), an open freight wagon, class Ommu, of the Deutsche Reichsbahn (DR ), a covered freight wagon, class Gze, of the Hungarian State Railways (MAV) and an open freight wagon, class Wddo, of the Polish State Railways (PKP).

OPW refers to the joint freight wagon fleet of the former socialist European countries. The members of OPW, which was founded on July 1, 1964, were Bulgaria, Hungary, the GDR, Poland, Romania, the USSR and the CSSR. The design of the wagons had to meet certain technical requirements. For example, the wagons could not have been built before 1950. They had to have a modern welded construction and roller bearings and be suitable for speeds of up to 100 km/h. The wagons remained the property of the railway administration. The wagons remained the property of the railroad administration that had brought them in. The OPW wagons were to be used primarily for international traffic between the countries involved. Scheduled inspections of the wagons at the end of the specified periods were carried out by the owner railroad at its own expense.
