Roco 70038 H0 Steam locomotive class 56.20-29 (pr. G 8.2), DR, era IV, DC sound: Freight train power with history
With the Roco 70038 class 56.20-29 (Prussian G 8.2) steam locomotive, Roco brings an authentic model of one of the most frequently built freight locomotives in Germany to your H0 layout. These locomotives were delivered from 1919 and were in service with the Deutsche Reichsbahn until the 1970s. With the 1970 redrawing plan, they were given computerized numbers, which was implemented in the model with great fidelity to the prototype. The locomotive shown here was based at the Saalfeld depot of the Erfurt Reichsbahn Directorate.
The BR 56.20-29 was a workhorse on German freight lines. It had an output of 1,023 kW (1,390 hp), could haul 120.4 tons on the rails and reached a top speed of 65 km/h - ideal for heavy freight train service. Roco has recreated this powerful steam locomotive in Era IV with many fine details and offers a model with outstanding looks and technology.
The model is designed for direct current operation and is factory-equipped with a sound decoder (MX645R). Two axles are powered and two have traction tires. A flywheel mass ensures smooth running characteristics. The digital interface in accordance with NEM 651 is already equipped with the decoder, making the locomotive fully digitally usable. The tender is equipped with close coupling kinematics in accordance with NEM 362 for authentic shunting.
The locomotive has two headlights depending on the direction of travel and a large number of realistic lettering, including the EDP number. The length over buffers is 195 mm, the minimum radius is 358 mm - perfect for standard H0 layouts with light to medium track curves.
Whether as an addition to a Reichsbahn layout or as a solitaire in a historical freight train - the Roco 70038 BR 56.20-29 is a must for all fans of Era IV and Prussian steam technology.
