The former stars of the DRG were mostly in an alarmingly poor condition after the Second World War - especially in the area of the streamlining. Initially, the plan was to retire them. However, the severe shortage of locomotives led to the decision to refurbish all of them. The remains of the streamlined shell were removed as part of an L4. Due to the severely worn St 47 K boilers, DB decided in 1953 to equip all 01.10s with a welded high-performance boiler with combustion chamber.
Locomotive 01 1062, which entered service in 1940, received its new boiler in 1954. It was renumbered 011 062-7 in 1968 as part of the redesignation to computerized numbers. It was assigned to the Rheine depot for the last few years before the z position, where it retired from service in 1973 and was looked after with particular care.
