Roco 70080 steam locomotive Rh 354.1, CSD, Ep. III (incl. sound) Product Details

Description

About the model: The class 354.1 steam locomotive is of the Czechoslovakian State Railways design and is from Era III. The locomotive is 153 mm long (length over buffers) and has a digital interface. The model is factory-equipped with a sound decoder. It is powered by 3 axles and 1 is equipped with traction tires. All other details about the model can be found under the features.

About the prototype: In 1912, the then k.k. priv. Südbahn-Gesellschaft ordered a tender locomotive for heavy passenger train service to replace the class 229 locomotives that had become too weak. The locomotive factory of the Staats-Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft then developed the hot steam type of the class 629 as the first tender locomotive in the world with the Pacific axle arrangement 2'C1'. The first 629 was delivered to the Southern Railway Company in 1913, and 14 more in a total of 3 delivery series followed in the next two years. The extraordinarily good experience with this series prompted the imperial-royal state railroads to purchase 25 almost identical locomotives by the end of the monarchy in 1918. Fifteen Südbahn machines and ten of the state railroads remained in Austria after the First World War. 15 of them had to be handed over to the newly founded CSD, which designated them 354.121 to 135.
