Description

In 1941 and 1942, a total of four double locomotives of type D 311 were put into service by the German Wehrmacht. The D 311.01 a/b, also known as the "Walli", was used on the Crimean peninsula. Together with its sister locomotive D 311.02 a/b, it maneuvered the "Dora", the largest railroad gun ever built. The locomotives D 311.03 and 04 were intended for use with the "Schwerer Gustav 2" gun and presumably served in the West. A fifth and sixth double locomotive was ordered from Krupp, but could no longer be built due to the events of the war.
