Description

The foundation stone for this rail link between Hungary and Austria was laid 150 years ago. On October 15, 1872, Emperor Franz Joseph I granted the concession for the construction of a railroad line from Raab (Győr) via Ödenburg (Sopron) to Ebenfurth in Lower Austria. The line between Raab and Ödenburg was opened in 1876, followed by the remaining section to Ebenfurth in 1879. The entire line has been electrified since 1988. The Raab-Oedenburg-Ebenfurter Eisenbahn AG, now known as the Raaberbahn (GySEV in Hungary), connects the two countries of Austria and Hungary and continues to operate as an important public transport link. To mark its anniversary, the 470 504 was given an eye-catching advertising design in May 2022.
