The WR 360 C 14 diesel locomotives were originally used by the German Wehrmacht for deployment at strategically important points. At the end of the Second World War, it became a civilian all-rounder.
Although the V 36 was curiously used under the same name in West and East Germany after the war, there were clear differences between the two variants: On the DB, two additional fuel tanks on the front of the engine increased the locomotive's range. The DB-V 36 was also fitted with a DB-style front radiator grille and a cooling water expansion tank on the front end. The radiator fan grilles on the sides were closed with the aid of covers and a maintenance flap on the side of the front end was omitted.
The last locomotives, now designated as class 236, were in service with the DB until 1981.
