The 7100019 H0 steam locomotive 086 407-4 of the German Federal Railroad (DB) is an authentic reproduction of one of the last representatives of the class 086 in Era IV. With numerous shape changes such as welded replacement water boxes, a snow plow and other details, this model brings the impressive history of the versatile branch line locomotives to your model railroad layout.
After the end of the Second World War, 386 class 86 locomotives remained on West German territory. The German Federal Railroad was able to repair a total of 378 locomotives by 1952. These locomotives, originally designed for branch line traffic, proved to be extremely versatile. In addition to passenger trains, they also ran express trains and were active in shunting services.
The 086 407-4 locomotive shown here was fitted with welded replacement water boxes, a welded attachment for the coal box and was equipped with DB reflector lamps and snow plows. Its state of construction corresponds to 1972, when it was still in active service. The 086 class was taken out of service by the DB in 1974, making it an important part of Era IV.
In Era IV (1965-1990), diesel and electric locomotives increasingly dominated the image of the Deutsche Bundesbahn. However, steam locomotives such as the 086 continued to be used on branch lines and in shunting duties. The 086 407-4 represents this transitional period, during which it was optimized with its special adaptations for various areas of use.
The model is a detailed reproduction of the 086 407-4 as built in 1972. It has welded replacement water boxes, a snow plow and a coal box with a welded attachment. The leading and trailing wheelsets are equipped with 9 spokes, while the DB reflex lamps and the filigree printing round off the prototypical representation.
The lighting is provided by white LEDs that allow the light to change depending on the direction of travel. With a length over buffers (LüP) of 160 mm, the model is ideal for use on H0 layouts with a branch line character.
The model is designed for direct current systems (DC) and has a coupling shaft according to NEM with close coupling kinematics, which enables a realistic representation and safe connection. The minimum radius of 360 mm also makes the locomotive suitable for smaller layouts and curved routes. The precise reproduction of the boiler, driver's cab and running gear underlines the quality of this model.
The locomotive is made of robust plastic with precisely manufactured metal components, including the wheelsets and drive parts. The careful printing and true-to-the-original color scheme make this model an eye-catcher on any layout. The sturdy workmanship guarantees a long service life and reliable operating characteristics.
The locomotive requires little maintenance, but should be regularly cleaned of dirt and dust. The wheelsets and moving parts can be lightly oiled to ensure smooth operation. The LED lighting is long-lasting, but should be protected from moisture.
The 7100019 H0 steam locomotive 086 407-4 is an ideal model for fans of Era IV and fans of branch lines. With its detailed design, the numerous prototypical adaptations and the robust workmanship, it authentically brings the fascination of the last years of the steam locomotive era to your layout. Whether in shunting service or on branch lines - this locomotive is an enrichment for every H0 collection.
