Description

Roco 7130035 H0 Steam Locomotive Class 477.0 ČSD Era IV DCC Sound – Blue “Papoušek” as an Exclusive Edition Model

Would you like to experience an extraordinary steam locomotive with striking coloring and authentic sound on your H0 model railroad layout? The Roco 7130035 Class 477.0 steam locomotive of the Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD) combines fascinating railway history with modern digital technology. As a special edition model, the legendary “Papoušek” is appearing for the first time in a blue paint scheme and as a variant of the second production series featuring the characteristic large water tanks. The factory-installed PluX22 sound decoder, along with the digitally controllable cab and engine lighting, ensure a varied driving experience. This version is intentionally offered without dynamic steam and is aimed at model railroaders who prefer a high-quality sound locomotive without a smoke function.

Prototype: The ČSD Class 477.0—the pinnacle of Czechoslovak steam locomotive construction

The Class 477.0 is considered the last and technically most advanced steam locomotive class of the Czechoslovak State Railways. Between 1951 and 1955, the ČKD Sokolovo locomotive factory in Prague produced a total of 60 units. These powerful tender locomotives were further developed from the preceding Class 476.1 and were designed for heavy passenger and express train service. With their 2'D2' wheel arrangement and a service weight of approximately 131 metric tons, they were among the heaviest tender locomotives in Europe at the time. The three-cylinder steam engines reached a top speed of about 100 km/h and developed a starting tractive effort of nearly 110 kN. This made the locomotives ideally suited for demanding passenger service and ranked them among the most impressive steam locomotives of their generation.

The Blue “Papoušek”—A Steam Locomotive with an Unmistakable Character

The Class 477.0 locomotives impressed not only with their performance but also with their extraordinary appearance. The streamlined firebox, the characteristic Witte air deflectors, and the elegant paint schemes with decorative trim lines made the locomotives highly recognizable. Due to their often colorful design, they were nicknamed “Papoušek,” which means “parrot” in German. The Roco 7130035 captures this unique character and presents the tender locomotive for the first time in a striking blue paint scheme. This makes the legendary Czechoslovakian “Parrot” an extraordinary eye-catcher at the head of historic passenger and express trains.

Special Edition Model with Large Water Tanks and a New Body Style

A special feature of the Roco 7130035 is its recreation of the second production series with the large and distinctive side water tanks. This design variant gives the locomotive its characteristic silhouette and distinguishes it from other versions of the 477.0 series. The blue paint scheme, used for the first time, emphasizes the elegant lines and really brings out the numerous design details. As a Roco Edition model, this version combines a unique historical design with elaborate model craftsmanship. This combination of blue paint and large water tanks is particularly appealing to collectors of exceptional ČSD steam locomotives.

Delicate piping, metal components, and a detailed cab

Roco places great emphasis on careful and detailed reproduction of the Class 477.0. Particularly noteworthy are the delicate pipes beneath the boiler, which highlight the complex appearance of the three-cylinder steam locomotive. Delicately crafted spoked wheels and various metal model parts complement the high-quality construction. The cab has also been designed with great attention to detail and provides an interesting glimpse into the technology of the historic prototype. To achieve a particularly sophisticated look, some of the locomotive’s signage is additionally included as an etched part. As a result, the Roco 7130035 offers numerous details that stand out beautifully both while running and when displayed in a model showcase.

DCC Digital Operation with PluX22 Sound Decoder

The Roco 7130035 is designed for digital DC operation on H0 two-wire layouts and features a factory-installed PluX22 digital decoder with sound. This allows you to control the steam locomotive via a compatible digital command station and accompany its operation with authentic steam locomotive sound effects. The sound features lend the model a lively atmosphere, particularly when pulling away with a heavy passenger train, during a journey along the track, or while stopped at a station. An additional digital decoder is not required for the intended operation and sound features. Unlike the Roco 7110035 version with dynamic steam, the Roco 7130035 does not have a dynamic smoke function.

Digitally controllable cab and engine compartment lighting

In addition to the integrated sound functions, the Roco Series 477.0 offers an interesting digital lighting system. The switchable LED cab lighting effectively highlights the intricately designed workstation of the locomotive crew. In addition, the locomotive features digitally controllable engine lighting, which provides fascinating glimpses into the moving mechanics of the steam locomotive, especially in the dark. The model also features a direction-dependent three-light headlight with LEDs at both ends of the vehicle. The combination of the headlight, cab lighting, and engine lighting underscores the characteristic appearance of the blue “Papoušek” and ensures varied operating scenarios.

Powerful drive with a five-pole motor and flywheel

The Roco 7130035 also impresses technically with its well-designed features. A five-pole motor, combined with a flywheel, ensures smooth running characteristics and supports quiet operation. Four axles are driven, while one axle is equipped with traction tires to improve traction. This design provides excellent conditions for use with historic passenger and express trains. With a length over buffers of 199 mm and a minimum curve radius of 358 mm, the tender locomotive can be used on appropriately designed H0 track layouts. The combination of a powerful drive system, digital sound technology, and switchable lighting functions makes this model an attractive choice for discerning digital model railroaders.

Matching passenger trains and prototypical applications

The Roco 7130035 is ideal for H0 model railroad layouts featuring Czechoslovakian-style trains from Era IV. As a powerful express train tender locomotive, the Class 477.0 can be combined particularly well with historic ČSD passenger cars and express train cars. Designing a larger station, a classic platform layout, or a steam locomotive depot also offers interesting possibilities for varied operational scenarios. The digital sound functions and the switchable engine lighting are particularly impressive when the locomotive exits the station. For coupling with compatible cars, the model features a NEM 362 coupling shaft with close-coupling kinematics in the tender area.

A special DCC Sound Edition model for ČSD collectors

The Roco 7130035 combines the history of one of the most significant Czechoslovakian steam locomotive series with a high-quality H0 model and modern digital technology. The original blue paint scheme, the variant with large water tanks, and the numerous intricate details make the “Papoušek” a visual highlight in its own right. The factory-installed PluX22 sound decoder, along with the digitally controllable cab and engine lighting, add attractive features to the model for digital operation. This edition is an excellent choice, especially for ČSD collectors, enthusiasts of historic express locomotives, and model railroader who prefer a sound-equipped version without dynamic steam. Expand your steam locomotive collection with the Roco 7130035 Class 477.0 and experience the legendary blue “Papoušek” with impressive sound on your H0 model railroad layout!
