Description

Roco steam locomotive 44 139 - TT, DRG, Era II

The Roco 7180014 shows the heavy freight locomotive 44 139 of the Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft (DRG) in a special version with photographic paint. With Wagner wind deflectors, the finest printing and many separately applied parts, this model is a real highlight for Era II layouts in TT scale.

Design & finish

The locomotive has a photographic paint finish, a special lime paint that was applied by locomotive factories to make locomotives more visible for photographs. This was only applied for presentation purposes and could be washed off. The design is complemented by the striking Wagner wind deflectors. Many separately applied components and a detailed driver's cab ensure a realistic appearance.

Technology & equipment

The locomotive is powered by a 3-pole motor with a flywheel. Two axles are driven and equipped with traction tires to achieve a higher tractive force. The lighting is provided by a 2 headlight that switches depending on the direction of travel and uses modern LED technology. A Next18 interface is provided for later digitization. The model is designed for DC analog operation.

Historical background

The class 44 was created as part of the standard locomotive program of the Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft. With its 1'E h3 axle arrangement, it was designed for heavy freight train service and was to be able to haul up to 1,200 t in low mountain ranges and 600 t over steep ramps. The first 10 locomotives were delivered in 1926. Series production began on a larger scale from 1937, so that the class 44 formed the backbone of heavy goods traffic in Germany for decades. The photographic livery was a special feature that was used for presentation and advertising purposes. It enabled high-contrast images of the locomotives at a time when black and white photography dominated.

Compatibility & possible applications

The locomotive is designed for DC analog operation and can be digitally retrofitted via the Next18 interface. It is ideally suited for use in freight train service in Era II and harmonizes perfectly with DRG freight cars of the same era.

Purchase arguments & target group

This model is a must for fans of historic DRG vehicles. The photographic paint scheme makes the 44 139 an extraordinary locomotive that is interesting for both display case collectors and model railroaders with a historical layout theme.
