The Roco 7180015 represents the powerful steam locomotive 44 0989-2 of the Deutsche Reichsbahn. With a new boiler, oil tender and detailed design, this model impressively embodies the power and presence of the legendary class 44 in Era IV.
The model impresses with its solid construction and high level of detail. It has a new boiler, an oil tender and the simplified "ÜK driver's cab". Finely applied parts such as handle bars, lines and printing make the locomotive a particularly realistic model in TT scale.
The locomotive is driven by a 3-pole motor with a flywheel, which ensures smooth running characteristics. Two axles are driven, both with traction tires for increased tractive power. Lighting is provided by 3 headlights at both ends, which change depending on the direction of travel and use modern LED technology. The model is designed for DC analogue operation, but can be digitized at any time via the Next18 interface.
The class 44 was the backbone of the heavy freight train service in Germany. After the Second World War, numerous locomotives remained with the DR and were converted to oil firing. Due to their immense tractive power, they were nicknamed "Jumbo" or "Pachyderm". Locomotive 44 0989-2 was stationed at Sangerhausen depot (Erfurt station) and served until it was replaced by modern diesel and electric locomotives. The last 44s were taken out of service by the DR in 1986.
The locomotive is designed for DC analogue operation in TT scale, with the option of digitalization via the Next18 interface. It is ideal for use in front of heavy freight trains on main lines of Era IV and gives layouts a realistic DR operating image.
This model is the perfect choice for DR enthusiasts and model railroaders who want to experience the mighty "Jumbo" in TT scale. With its detailed implementation and optional digitization, it is equally suitable for collectors as well as for operating railway enthusiasts.
