Description

Roco steam locomotive 18 201 - TT, DR, Era IV, with sound

The Roco 7190017 shows the legendary express locomotive 18 201 of the Deutsche Reichsbahn in Era IV. In a unique edition on the occasion of "65 years of 18 201", the model appears for the first time in the operating condition of the late 1980s with authentic lettering. With digital sound and the finest lettering, this model is a highlight for any TT layout.

Design & workmanship

The model impresses with its flawless printing, fine decorative lines and precise DR lettering. Separately applied parts, filigree lines and the prototypical color scheme ensure a high degree of authenticity. The locomotive is equipped with an NEM shaft with close coupling kinematics and can be ideally integrated into DR express train sets.

Technology & equipment

The locomotive is powered by a 3-pole motor with a flywheel that drives two axles. Two axles have traction tires for more tractive power. Lighting is provided by a 3 headlight that switches depending on the direction of travel and uses modern LED technology. An integrated NEM-651 sound decoder provides an authentic soundscape. The locomotive is designed for DC digital operation.

Historical background

The 18 201 is one of the best-known express steam locomotives in the world. It was built in 1960/61 in the Meiningen RAW from parts of various locomotives, including the Henschel-Wegmann train locomotive 61 002 and a BR 41. The new boiler of the BR 22, an extended smoke chamber with Giesl ejector and a back pressure brake made it a special technical feature. With a top speed of 175 km/h (later 180 km/h), it was the fastest operational steam locomotive in Europe. In 1967 it was fitted with an oil main firing system and in 1970 it was renamed 02 0201-0. Even in GDR times, it was known as a traditional locomotive and was often used for special trips. In 1985, it was allowed to travel to the West for the first time and was one of the major attractions at the 150th anniversary of the German railroads in Nuremberg.

Compatibility & possible uses

The locomotive is designed for DC digital operation in TT scale and is ideal as a train locomotive for express trains, special trains and traditional runs. It is the perfect complement to the Roco Era IV passenger coaches and fits perfectly into museum and historical train scenes.

Purchase arguments & target group

The 18 201 is an absolute highlight for collectors and model railroaders. It combines railroad history with impressive technology and an unmistakable prototype. With sound, LED light and historical significance, it is equally suitable for showcase collectors and active layout operators.
