The 7310079 H0 diesel locomotive 2062.30 from the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) is a detailed model that perfectly captures the character and versatility of this small but powerful locomotive. With its precise workmanship, extensive digital functions and high tractive power, this locomotive is a highlight for any H0 model railway layout.
In order to replace the cost-intensive steam locomotives in shunting service, the ÖBB procured a series of two-axle diesel locomotives of the 2062 series from 1958. The Jenbacher works in Tyrol built a total of 65 of these 400 hp small diesel locomotives by 1966. The locomotives were characterized by their compact design and robust construction, which predestined them for use in shunting service and in front of construction trains.
A striking feature of the 2062 are the eye-catching cast-iron front plates, which serve as ballast weights. These locomotives could be found throughout Austria in shunting service, but also on Lower Austrian branch lines in front of passenger trains with one or two carriages. Although the last examples were retired from regular service in 2003, some are still in use today as works and construction train locomotives with the designation X262.
The diesel locomotive 2062.30 is a typical example of the railroad landscape of eras III and IV. Era III, which extends from 1949 to 1970, represents the transition from steam to diesel and electric locomotives. In Era IV, which begins around 1970, rail transport was further modernized, which is also reflected in the increased use of diesel locomotives such as the 2062. This model is therefore ideal for depicting this transitional period on model railroad layouts.
The renowned manufacturer Roco stands for precise and detailed models that meet the highest demands. The 2062.30 diesel locomotive also impresses with numerous applied details such as the free-standing grab irons and the clear view through the reproduced driver's cab. The engine front end and the die-cast zinc gear block ensure a high dead weight and excellent tractive power.
The model is equipped with a digitally controllable shunting coupling, which provides more playing fun and makes it easy to couple and uncouple wagons. The integrated digital decoder offers extensive light and sound functions that provide a realistic driving experience. The locomotive has 2 headlights that can be switched in digital operation.
The powered 2 axles and the traction tires ensure high tractive power, even for heavy shunting tasks. The interior lighting in the driver's cab gives the model additional authenticity and makes the details of the driver's cab look particularly realistic. With a minimum radius of 358 mm, the locomotive is also designed for tight curves and offers stable and smooth running characteristics.
The model features the classic ÖBB color scheme from Era III-IV, which is perfectly matched to the detailed replica. The clean paintwork and precise printing make the locomotive a visual highlight. The free-standing grab irons and the finely worked ballast weights on the front emphasize the authentic appearance.
The combination of detailed design, powerful technology and extensive digital functions makes this locomotive the perfect choice for all model railroaders. It is suitable for use in shunting operations as well as on branch lines and lends additional realism to any layout with an Austrian theme.
The model is ideal for use in shunting operations or in front of construction and freight trains. The locomotive can also show its strengths on branch lines, where it was often used in front of short passenger trains in reality. Thanks to the digital shunting coupler, the model also offers a wide range of possible uses in toy operation.
The 7310079 H0 diesel locomotive 2062.30, ÖBB, Ep. III-IV is a high-quality model that impresses with its detailed design and technical features. With its robust construction, digital control and realistic sound functions, it is a perfect addition to any H0 model railway layout depicting Austrian rail traffic.
