The Roco 7310082 diesel locomotive 754 083-4 of the Slovakian State Railways (ZSSK) is an exact model of the popular "diving goggles" or "spectacle snake" in Era VI. With digital sound equipment, LED lighting and the finest detailing, it is a real highlight for modern model railway layouts.

Prototype and history

The locomotives of the T 478.4 series were built at CKD in Prague as a further development of the T 478.3. They were equipped with a more powerful engine and an electric train heating system, which made them more versatile. From 1988, the 86 machines built bore the new series designation 754. 754 083 was delivered to the then ČSD in May 1980 as T 478.4083. After the division of the fleet in 1993, it went to the Slovakian ZSR together with 26 other machines and is now part of the ZSSK fleet.

Model realization

The Roco model shows the locomotive in the current ZSSK design. It is equipped with many separately applied plug-in parts that make the model look particularly realistic. The typical shape of the "diving goggles" has been faithfully reproduced and the fine printing ensures a harmonious appearance.

Digital equipment

The model is equipped with a PluX22 digital decoder with sound. In digital operation, the headlights can be switched according to the Slovakian model. The headlights and marker lights depend on the direction of travel and are implemented with LED technology. This makes the lighting particularly bright, long-lasting and energy-saving. This is complemented by realistic operating and engine noises that round off the driving experience.

Technical features

A powerful motor with flywheel mass ensures smooth driving characteristics. Four axles are powered, one of which has traction tires for additional traction. With a length of 190 mm over buffers and a minimum radius of 358 mm, the locomotive can be used on most H0 layouts. Thanks to the NEM 362 coupling mount with close coupling kinematics, operation in a train set is possible without any problems.

Use on the model railroad

The Roco 754 083-4 is suitable for use in front of express and passenger trains as well as in freight traffic. It authentically brings the modern railroad operation of the ZSSK to the layout and is therefore a versatile model for Era VI.
