Are you looking for a compact Italian switching locomotive that impresses with authentic sound, a digital shunting coupler, and numerous fine details? The Roco D.225.6014 from the Italian State Railways (FS) brings the classic shunting operations of Era IV to your H0 model railroad layout. The model combines a heavy-duty die-cast zinc motor housing and gear block with high inherent weight, detailed construction, and modern digital functions. This compact diesel locomotive really shines during shunting maneuvers, when moving freight cars, and when operating on small industrial sidings.
The Group 225 diesel locomotives were put into service for shunting on the Italian rail network starting in 1955. These standard-gauge locomotives were produced in several sub-variants, which differed, among other things, in their drive configurations. The group included variants with rod drive as well as the D.225.6000 series with cardan drive.
The locomotives of the D.225.6000 sub-series were technically related to the Class 2062 developed by Jenbacher Werke for the Austrian Federal Railways. Following two prototypes, a total of 20 production locomotives were built in 1960 and 1961 and added to the fleet with road numbers 225.6001 through 225.6020. The D.225.6014 belongs to this series and is a characteristic example of Italian yard operations.
A key feature of the Roco model is the motor housing with a die-cast zinc gear block. The additional weight enhances tractive effort, making the locomotive an attractive choice for demanding shunting operations on the model railroad.
Visually, the D.225.6014 also impresses with its meticulous design. Numerous separately molded parts and freestanding handrails give the model a three-dimensional appearance. The unobstructed view into the replica cab makes the locomotive look particularly authentic, even up close.
A special highlight is the digital shunting coupler. It enables additional play options during shunting and supports varied operations with compatible freight cars. The locomotive is particularly versatile on layouts featuring freight yards, industrial sidings, or small depots.
The integrated onboard decoder also enables digital control of the light and sound functions. The switchable headlight, LED lighting, and cab lighting ensure a realistic depiction of various operating situations. An integrated buffer capacitor supports an uninterrupted power supply and can help bridge brief contact interruptions.
The DC sound version brings acoustic life to your model railroad layout. The integrated sound functions complement shunting operations with appropriate operational sounds and emphasize the character of the historic diesel locomotive.
In addition, the two headlights can be controlled digitally. Additional lighting functions, including cab lighting, are also provided. This makes the Roco D.225.6014 ideal for realistic shunting scenes both day and night, as well as for varied digital operating scenarios.
This compact diesel locomotive is designed for H0 scale and intended for digital DC operation. Two axles are powered, and one axle is equipped with traction tires. The specified minimum curve radius is 358 mm and should be taken into account when planning your layout.
With a length over buffers of just 92 mm, the model is ideal for confined switching areas, short storage tracks, and small layouts. Please note that, according to the manufacturer’s description, the locomotive can only be operated to a limited extent with analog control units. Its digital functions are designed for use with a suitable digital control system.
The Roco D.225.6014 is aimed at model railroaders who wish to recreate Italian freight traffic from Era IV, as well as collectors of unique European switching locomotives. The combination of die-cast zinc components, freestanding handrails, and a digital shunting coupler sets this model apart from simple shunting locomotives.
Whether you’re assembling short freight trains, shunting on an industrial spur, or displaying it as an eye-catcher in an Italian rolling stock collection—this compact diesel locomotive offers numerous uses and brings authentic shunting flair to your H0 tracks.
With the Roco FS D.225.6014 diesel locomotive, you can expand your H0 model railroad collection with a highly detailed Era IV shunting locomotive. The die-cast zinc engine housing, the digital shunting coupler, the switchable lighting functions, and the authentic sound make this model an attractive addition for discerning model railroaders.
Experience a variety of shunting maneuvers and design your freight operations based on the Italian model. Get this compact Roco diesel locomotive with digital features and bring a piece of Italian railway history to your model railroad layout!
