The T 478.3 series locomotive, affectionately known as the "diving goggles" or "spectacle snake" due to its striking windshield shape, was produced by the manufacturer ČKD Prague from 1968. With a total of 408 units built, it was an important part of Czechoslovakian train operation - in front of passenger trains, freight trains and also in construction train service.
