Description

From 1956, the ÖBB procured 25 light luggage railcars of the 4061 series, which were equipped with a luggage compartment and a train driver's compartment and were designed for urban express services on valley routes. This made it possible to avoid having to carry a luggage coach. As the luggage compartment proved to be unsuitable for everyday operation, the new series designation 1046 was used from May 30, 1976.
