The E.444.031 electric loc omotive of the Italian State Railways (FS) is a detailed model that perfectly reproduces the elegance and technology of Italian express locomotives in eras V and VI. The class E.444 was put into service in 1970 as the first high-performance express locomotive of the Italian State Railways. The E.444 was designed for a maximum speed of 180 km/h and was mainly used for high-quality passenger services.
Between 1989 and 1997, all locomotives were reconstructed and renamed E.444R. The maximum speed was increased to 200 km/h and the rounded design gave way to a more modern, angular look. However, the modernized locomotives retained their legendary reputation and continued to be used in front of express trains and high-quality passenger trains.
