Would you like to bring the legendary express train service of the Deutsche Bundesbahn back to life on your H0 model railroad layout? The Roco 7500291 DB Class 110 140-1 electric locomotive brings one of the most famous German electric locomotives of the postwar era to your tracks. This elaborate new design recreates the classic boxy shape of the early Class 110 series with single headlights and impresses with numerous prototype-accurate details. Particularly noteworthy are the redesigned roof equipment, the delicate DBS 54 scissor pantograph, and the finely crafted bogie covers with a clear view of the wheel discs and brake shoes. With a five-pole motor, flywheel, and a PluX22 digital interface, this electric locomotive is ideal for historic express, rapid, and commuter trains of Era IV.
The E 10 series electric locomotives were developed as part of the Deutsche Bundesbahn’s standardized locomotive program. The goal was to develop high-performance electric locomotives that were economical to maintain for various tasks in rail transport. The use of numerous components shared with the E 40, E 41, and E 50 series simplified manufacturing, spare parts supply, and maintenance. The E 10 was developed specifically for high-quality passenger service and impressed with an output of approximately 3,700 kW and a top speed of 150 km/h. Starting in 1968, the locomotives were designated as the 110 series under the Deutsche Bundesbahn’s new numbering system. For many decades, these reliable machines shaped electric passenger rail service in Germany.
The Roco 7500291 depicts the 110 140-1 electric locomotive in its operational condition during Era IV. A particularly distinctive feature is the angular locomotive body of the early series, which differs markedly from the later versions with their streamlined front design. This classic design made the Class 110 an unmistakable feature of the Bundesbahn era. Originally, the locomotives were used to haul high-quality express trains. Over the years, they increasingly took on express trains and commuter services as well. The 110 140-1 is therefore particularly well-suited for model railroaders who wish to recreate the diverse passenger rail traffic of the 1970s and 1980s in a prototypical manner.
A special highlight of the Roco 7500291 is the elaborate redesign of the classic Class 110 series. The model features the characteristic design with single headlights, which define the appearance of the early box-shaped locomotives. The roof area has also been redesigned and incorporates the typical equipment found on the historic electric locomotive. Of particular interest is the new DBS 54 type pantograph with an innovative mounting system. The delicate design of the roof equipment and the distinctive box shape result in a detailed 1:87 scale replica of the Bundesbahn electric locomotive.
Roco places special emphasis on a realistic undercarriage design for the BR 110 140-1. The newly developed bogie covers provide a clear view of the wheel discs and brake shoes. This gives the undercarriage a particularly three-dimensional effect that becomes clearly visible upon closer inspection. The design is complemented by wheels with low flanges, which emphasize the prototype-accurate appearance. Together with the detailed roof section and the delicate scissor pantograph, this results in a high-quality model for discerning collectors and enthusiasts of classic Bundesbahn electric locomotives.
The Roco 7500291 is designed for analog DC operation on H0 two-wire layouts. A five-pole motor, combined with a flywheel, ensures smooth running characteristics and promotes quiet operation. All four axles of the electric locomotive are powered, while one axle is equipped with traction tires to improve traction. This makes the model well-suited for use at the head of longer historic passenger train sets. With a length over buffers of 190 mm and a minimum curve radius of 358 mm, the locomotive can be used on appropriately designed H0 track layouts. Coupler sockets compliant with NEM 362, featuring close-coupling kinematics, allow for coupling with suitable passenger cars.
Although the Roco BR 110 140-1 is supplied as an analog DC locomotive, it already features a PluX22 digital interface. This allows the model to be retrofitted with a suitable digital decoder as needed and prepared for digital model railroading. A digital or sound decoder is not factory-installed in this version. For prototypical lighting, the electric locomotive features a direction-dependent LED three-light headlight with two red tail lights. The automatic light change enhances the classic appearance of the DB locomotive and creates a realistic effect both in daylight and during trips at dusk.
The Roco 7500291 is ideal for H0 model railroads focused on the Deutsche Bundesbahn and Era IV. The 110 140-1 pairs particularly well with classic express train cars to form a historic D-train set. “Silberlinge” and other commuter cars typical of the era also offer interesting operational possibilities. An electrified main line with larger stations, long platforms, and a classic electric locomotive depot provides the perfect backdrop. Thanks to its versatile historical range of applications, the Class 110 can handle both high-quality long-distance trains and everyday commuter services on the model railroad layout.
The Roco 7500291 combines the history of a legendary German electric locomotive with a high-quality new design. The classic box-shaped design with single headlights, the redesigned roof section, and the DBS 54 scissor pantograph give the 110 140-1 an unmistakable character. In particular, the delicate bogie covers with an unobstructed view and the wheels with low flanges make the model an attractive addition for collectors. Thanks to its powerful drive and the PluX22 digital interface, the locomotive is suitable for both analog operation and future digitalization. Add the Roco BR 110 140-1 to your collection and bring one of the most famous express electric locomotives of the Deutsche Bundesbahn to your H0 model railroad layout!
