Alongside the class 103, the class 112 in beige-red livery was certainly one of the most elegant appearances in the DB fleet of the 1970s and 80s. DB put six E 10.1 (E 10 1239-1244) with special Henschel bogies designed for 160 km/h into service in May 1962 to cover the Rheingold trains and the Rheinpfeil group, which had been converted to locomotive-hauled sets. When the E 10 1265-1270 actually intended for these bogies became available in the fall of 1962, the E 10 1239-1244 were converted back to the normal version and the E 10 1265-1270 took over these noble services, together with the E 10 1308-1312 delivered shortly thereafter. The last series of the E 10.12 followed at the end of the 1960s with the 112 485-504, which were delivered with Krupp bogies designed for 160 km/h. In November 1994, the 114 504 (ex 112 504) was renumbered 110 504 and was used for local services in the Stuttgart area. Due to its special paintwork, the locomotive was a particularly often-photographed trainhorse among railroad fans.
