The E.444.031 electric loc omotive of the Italian State Railways (FS) is one of the best-known express locomotives in Italy. This model from Roco faithfully reproduces the modernized E.444R version. The locomotives of the E.444 series were put into service in 1970 as Italy's first high-speed express locomotives. Between 1989 and 1997, the E.444 locomotives were extensively modernized. The new designation E.444R stands for "ricostruzione" (reconstruction). The maximum speed was increased from 180 to 200 km/h and the rounded design was replaced by a more angular, modern appearance. The modernized locomotives remained an important part of high-quality passenger transport right into Era VI.
