The Roco electric locomotive 230 003-6 of the Deutsche Reichsbahn (DR) in Era IV is designed as a series locomotive of the class 230. The model impresses with its finely detailed design with separately applied plug-in parts and fine spoked wheels. It is based in the Dresden depot, Bw Dresden.
In the 1980s, the DR procured electric dual-system locomotives in order to simplify the constantly growing traffic and operating procedures in cross-border traffic between the GDR and Czechoslovakia. Due to the lack of experience in the field of dual-system technology (GDR: AC voltage 15 kV/16⅔ Hz, ČSSR: DC voltage 3 kV) and the full capacity utilization at the electric locomotive manufacturer LEW in Hennigsdorf, the machines were based on the ČSD series ES 499.1 and 499.2. However, the Škoda locomotive factory had not yet built a machine for the AC system 15 kV/16⅔ Hz, which is why the parts for the AC section were supplied from the GDR. This led to a double order for Škoda with 15 BR 372 locomotives and 20 BR 230 locomotives for the DR.
