With the Roco 78118 H0 diesel locomotive V188 002, model railroaders can experience one of the most unusual locomotive designs of the German Federal Railroad. The striking double locomotive, consisting of two permanently coupled units, was originally developed in the early 1940s as type D 311 for the transportation of heavy railroad guns. After the war, the robust design found a new purpose in DB's heavy freight and reversible train service, particularly on the notorious Spessart ramp. The V188 002 was in service in the Franconian region until 1972 and impressed with its enormous tractive power and reliability.

The model shows the V188 002 in Era IIIa, in the typical green color scheme with the characteristic roof structure.
