Based on the French BB 7200, the Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS) developed the powerful Series 1600 electric locomotives - a milestone in the history of the Dutch railroad. When they were introduced in 1981, they were the most powerful locomotives in the NS fleet and proved themselves in heavy passenger and freight service. The finely detailed H0 model perfectly reflects this technical icon in its Era IV version and offers the latest digital functions for demanding AC model railroaders.

Design & workmanship

Technical features & special functions

The LED lighting includes a light change depending on the direction of travel (3 headlights / 2 tail lights), switchable tail light and digitally switchable driver's cab lighting. The locomotive is equipped with a powerful PluX22 decoder and offers high tractive effort thanks to the coordinated combination of drive and traction tires - ideal for realistic train scenarios on 3L digital layouts.

Historical background

The Series 1600 was a technical quantum leap for the NS. With an output of 4,540 kW and a top speed of 140 km/h, it set new standards in Dutch railroad operations. The locomotives were used in front of both intercity and freight trains and shaped the image on the main lines of the Netherlands for decades.

Compatibility & expansion options

The locomotive is fully compatible with Märklin/3L AC digital layouts. It can be ideally combined with Era IV passenger and freight cars - especially with NS vehicles or international car sets in Benelux traffic.
