Description

The Italian state railroads commissioned ABB technomasio to build 20 dual-system locomotives for use in cross-border and cross-system traffic between Italy and Austria and Germany. These high-performance locomotives reach a speed of 220 km/h and are capable of generating an output of 6 MW or 5.5 MW under 3 kV direct current or 15 kV 16 2/3 Hz alternating current. The locomotives, which entered service in 1997, are still proving themselves in service in Italy today and most of them have the current Mercitalia Rail livery.
