Description

Tams Elektronik 41-04480-01 LD-G-42.2 Locomotive Decoder, without cable

Are you looking for a compact locomotive decoder for H0 that supports current digital standards and can be flexibly integrated into various locomotives? The Tams Elektronik 41-04480-01 LD-G-42.2 locomotive decoder, without cable, is a versatile solution for model railroaders who want to digitize or technically upgrade their locomotives. As the current standard for H0, this decoder offers a comprehensive set of features for digital operation while remaining pleasantly space-saving thanks to its compact dimensions.

The version without a cable or interface is particularly suited for users who want to install the decoder individually into their model. This makes the LD-G-42.2 well-suited for conversions where free wiring is desired or existing installation situations require a flexible solution. With DCC, Motorola II, RailCom, and DCC-A, the decoder supports key digital formats and feedback functions.

Compact H0 locomotive decoder with versatile digital operation

In digital operation, the LD-G-42.2 supports DCC in accordance with NMRA and RCN standards, as well as Motorola II. Automatic format detection is also included. In DCC mode, 127 basic addresses or 10,239 extended addresses are available; with Motorola II, 255 addresses are possible. The number of speed steps is also flexible: DCC supports 14, 28, or 128 speed steps, while Motorola II operates with 14 or 27b speed steps.

For programming, the CVs in DCC mode can be set via Direct Programming on the programming track or via POM (main track programming). Additionally, function mapping according to RCN-227 is possible. This allows the decoder to offer many options for adapting speed and function behavior to the desired locomotive.

Motor control with load regulation and shunting functions

The decoder is suitable for various motor types, including DC motors, bell-armature motors, and high-performance motors. AC motors can also be used in combination with a load control adapter or a permanent magnet. The motor control operates with a PWM period of 28 kHz and a maximum motor current of 1,000 mA.

The integrated load control can be adjusted via the KP, KI, and KD parameters. A start-up boost is also available. The speed characteristic curve can be set linearly across start-up, mid-range, and maximum speeds; alternatively, a custom characteristic curve is available in 28-speed mode. For shunting operations, the voltage can be reduced by approximately 50 percent and switched via a function.

Automated Sequences and Flexible Outputs

The LD-G-42.2 supports the ABC braking method and enables automated shuttle train operation based on the ABC method. Braking under DC voltage is also possible. In addition, the decoder offers an automatic uncoupling feature known as the “Uncoupling Waltz.” Additional functions, such as speed-dependent activation and deactivation of functions as well as stop and start with a single function, expand the range of applications.

Four switching outputs, each with a maximum current of 300 mA, are available for lighting and auxiliary functions. Among other things, the outputs support direction-dependent switching, shunting lights, dimming, flashing, inverted switching, gradual fading in and out, MARslight, kicking, and fire simulation. A switching input is also available and can be triggered, for example, via reed switches or Hall sensors.

Protection functions and compact design

The decoder is suitable for continuous analog operation and can be used with AC or DC speed controllers. Automatic analog detection simplifies use in various operating modes. To protect the locomotive and the decoder, an overload protection feature is integrated that automatically shuts off the motor if the permissible total current is exceeded or if a short circuit occurs at the motor output.

With dimensions of approximately 21.8 x 17.2 x 4 mm, the LD-G-42.2 remains compact and fits easily into many H0-scale vehicles. If you’re looking for a high-performance locomotive decoder without cables that combines DCC, MM II, RailCom, DCC-A, ABC braking, and flexible switching outputs, the Tams Elektronik LD-G-42.2 is an excellent choice for digital model railroading.
