The MAV Type Y/B 70 Second-Class Passenger Car is a highly detailed replica of a typical Hungarian long-distance passenger car from Era IV. With its precise construction, prototypical interior, and the option to retrofit interior lighting, this car is ideal for realistic model railroad scenes.
In the 1970s and 1980s, the Y/B 70 cars of the MAV (Magyar Államvasutak) were an indispensable part of international passenger service between Hungary and its neighboring countries. These cars were a defining feature of many long-distance trains traveling through Austria, Germany, and Czechoslovakia. Comfortable seating areas and spacious compartments made them popular with travelers.
The model impresses with its authentic color scheme in classic MAV green and the fine details on the exterior of the car. Inside, a precisely reproduced interior ensures a realistic appearance. This allows you to recreate realistic scenes, whether at train stations or while traveling through varied landscapes.
Thanks to the retrofittable interior lighting (Item No. 08917), the compartments can be atmospherically illuminated even during nighttime runs. The lighting adds an extra dimension to the model railway layout and highlights the car’s level of detail.
The car is equipped with a coupling mount and close-coupling kinematics in accordance with the NEM standard, enabling a secure and prototypical connection with other vehicles. Whether combined with first-class cars or compatible locomotives—the Y/B 70 car offers many possible uses.
The Y/B 70 second-class car complements trains that were used in both domestic and international service. Combine it with other MAV passenger cars or international long-distance cars to recreate typical train sets. This car type was often hauled by diesel locomotives such as the M62 or electric locomotives of the V43 series.
With its prototypical design, the option to retrofit interior lighting, and its versatile applications, the MAV Type Y/B 70 2nd-class passenger car is a valuable addition to any model railroad layout specializing in long-distance service during Era IV.
