Wind-tossed loner
The 56 765 of the GDR Reichsbahn is absolutely unique. It was built in June 1939 by the DRG by converting the ex-Prussian G 8.1 (DRG 55 4131) in order to improve the running characteristics of the four-coupler with a Bissel frame running in front and to increase the speed to 70 km/h. After the Second World War, it remained in service with the GDR in the 1960s. After the Second World War, it remained with the DR of the GDR and was in service in the 1960s at the Heringsdorf depot on the island of Usedom in passenger and freight traffic. There it was even fitted with wind deflectors as an exception due to the sometimes strong wind from the sea. The inscription "Lok Brigade Fritz Reuter" shows the special care taken of the locomotive by this brigade and commemorates the 19th century Low German writer and democrat Fritz Reuter.
