The Southern Pacific Railroad was one of the most important railroad companies in the western United States. Long freight trains with different types of cars transported raw materials, livestock, industrial products and liquids over long distances and characterized the image of American rail traffic.

Prototypical Southern Pacific freight car set

The set represents five different US freight cars of the Southern Pacific. Included are three single-door boxcars, a stock car (cattle car) and a tank car. The depicted operating condition corresponds approximately to the year 1948.

This combination of different wagon types ensures a varied and realistic appearance in the train set.

Detailed model realization

The models have frames and floors made of metal and impress with numerous finely executed details. Detailed bogies with special wheel sets ensure reliable running characteristics.

Roof walkways, access ladders, brake systems and other details are separately applied and underline the high level of detail of the wagons. The boxcars and the stock car have movable sliding doors that can be opened.

Technical equipment

The wagons are designed for the 2L direct current (DC) power system. As classic freight cars, they do not have their own propulsion and therefore do not have any digital functions or sound.

The couplers are interchangeable and are mounted in a NEM coupler pocket with close coupler kinematics. The total length over couplers is about 76 cm.

E320551 AC wheel sets or E320389 DC wheel sets (RP25) can be used as an option.
