The prototype: A heavy double electric locomotive Ae 8/14 "Landilok" from the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) serves as the prototype for this model from Piko. This locomotive was constructed in the 1920s and completed in 1931 to cope with the extremely demanding route over the Gotthard, with ramps with gradients of up to 27 per thousand. 2 further models were completed in 1932 and 1938. The first two locomotives had different drive systems in order to find the optimum variant. The Ae 8/14 11852 shown in the model is based on the 11851, but has increased power. The 3 locomotives were withdrawn from active service in 1972, 75 and 77. 11852 was refurbished in the Lucerne Museum of Transport after a cable fire in 1971 and can still be viewed there today.
About the model: The Trix model depicts the most powerful of the 3 locomotives, 11852, which was retired from service in 1972. The model corresponds to the late operating condition at the beginning of the 1970s. It is visually impressive with its characteristic green basic color scheme and various intricate details, such as grab irons, accurately reproduced roof pantographs and very precise running wheels and running gear components. The model has 1 controlled high-performance drive with flywheel mass per locomotive half, which drives 4 axles per car side, resulting in excellent running characteristics and very high tractive power. A pre-installed sound decoder makes it possible to switch the various light and sound functions digitally.
