Everything changes. But not every change means an improvement. It is the same with transport policy. In 1990, the citizens of the GDR were promised "blooming landscapes". In fact, this even applies to many railroad lines, where "DB-Natur" has made considerable gains in terrain since the early 1990s. Statistically speaking, every second kilometer of railroad in Central Germany, whose historic territory is essentially made up of the three states of Saxony, Thuringia and Saxony-Anhalt, has become "expendable" in the last quarter century.
The book presents examples of some of the railroad lines in impressive historical pictures. These are juxtaposed with photographs from the present day. The current traffic policy is held thereby unsparingly the mirror before face. It is nevertheless more than an obituary to the time of the railroad, but at the same time an incentive to visit former railroad lines, whether they lie fallow, are used as museum railroads or cycling and hiking trails.
