Description

Bemo 1259189 H0m electric locomotive Ge 4/4 III 649 "Engadiner Skimarathon", RhB Product Details

The Bemo 1259189 H0m electric locomotive Ge 4/4 III 649 "Engadiner Skimarathon" from the RhB is a new item in H0m scale that belongs to Era VI. This universal locomotive is powered by a 5-pole motor and has a digital interface in accordance with Next18 as well as LED headlights.

Locomotive 649 is the latest advertising locomotive of the Ge 4/4 III 641-652 series, which was specially postered for the annual "Engadin Skimarathon" and was presented at the beginning of 2024. The lower running band, which is different on both sides of the prototype, was faithfully reproduced in the model.

To counteract the shortage of locomotives during the peak season, the RhB ordered nine powerful electric locomotives from SLM. Based on the experience gained with the SBB's Re 450 and Re 460, the latest locomotive technologies were integrated into the Ge 4/4 III 641-649, including radially adjustable wheelsets, modern inverter and three-phase current technology and ergonomically designed controls. In the winter of 1993/94, the first of the 100 km/h machines with 3400 hp rolled onto the rails. Three more machines (650-652) were purchased in 1999. The Ge 4/4 8003, which was taken over by the DC-operated MOB in 2019, has not yet been converted for RhB operation. After a few years of operation, the angular high-performance locomotives began to be rented out as advertising media and provided with colorful advertising lettering.

The locomotives are mainly used on the Albula line to haul the Albula articulated trains (AGZ) and in front of car trains in the Vereina Tunnel.
