Historical Background and Prototype

Work cars were indispensable for railroad operations and were widely used on construction sites to transport building materials such as ballast or tools. Since these so-called X-cars could not be used for the commercial transport of goods for third parties, older cars were converted into work cars and adapted to the new requirements. The number of X-cars fluctuated greatly due to changing demand and decommissioning—from about 48,500 in 1920 to 15,000 in 1953. The Xr 35 model chosen by Brawa is based on the Gms 30 model, whose car bodies were lost in the 1950s—partly as a result of war damage. The remaining undercarriages were fitted with new fixed side walls and adapted to the changed areas of operation.

The model has a length over buffers of 104.60 mm and bears the road number 462 040. It is equipped with open-work car body supports and a separately attached braking system. Metal axle holders, close-coupling kinematics, separately attached axle bearing caps, and running boards ensure a high degree of prototypical accuracy and optimal running characteristics.
