With its striking ivory-red color scheme, it exuded international flair and was considered a technical masterpiece of the 1960s and 70s. As "Karlex", "Vindobona" or "Neptun", it connected the capitals and health resorts of Europe.

Today, the Märklin 38175 model is a reminder of this great era. It reproduces a completely reworked museum set as it is being restored by SVT Görlitz gGmbH in the style of the original version - under the motto "A train for Central Germany". With this model, model railroaders experience a fascinating symbiosis of past and present.

Technical details & digital equipment

The Märklin 38175 VT 18.16 is a completely new design on a scale of 1:87. The four-part unit consists of two power cars (VTa and VTb) and two center cars (VMc with dining room/kitchen and VMd). The model is powered by a controlled high-performance drive with flywheel mass, which drives all four axles via cardan shafts in one power car. Traction tires provide additional traction.

An mfx+ digital decoder with game world functions enables a variety of operating, sound and light functions. The equipment includes LED interior lighting, cab, control panel, engine room and dining car lighting - all of which can be controlled digitally. The triple headlights and the red marker lights change over with the direction of travel and can also be controlled digitally. A wiper switchover ensures that power is always supplied via the leading power car.

Design & workmanship

The heavy metal design with many attached details gives the model a realistic appearance and high quality. The multi-part interior fittings with finely reproduced elements also ensure authenticity in the interior. Special multi-pole current-carrying couplings with guide rails connect the vehicles to each other. There is a replica of the automatic coupling (without function) at both ends.
