About the original: With the class 151, the DB procured a total of 170 electric locomotives for heavy freight service in the period from 1972-1978. The class 151 was planned on the basis of the class 150, which was not able to cope with the increasing demands of heavy freight traffic. Due to a lack of capacity, the locomotives were also used for passenger services, but were also used on the ramps on the Hochstadt-Marktzeuln-Probstzella line. Due to the overhaul process, the class 151 locomotives are now parked, sold or scrapped. The 151 121 was rebuilt from AK couplings to screw couplings and is on display in the DB Museum Koblenz in non-operational condition. In 2017, Deutsche Bahn sold a total of 100 locomotives from the series to a consortium consisting of Railpool and Toshiba. The last 151 locomotives taken out of service in 2021 were the locomotives that were replaced by class 189 locomotives in the Nordenham-Salzgitter heavy ore traffic.
About the model: The Märklin model depicts the operating condition of the class around 1974 in a chrome oxide green paint scheme.
