Description

Märklin 88417 Z E-Lok BR 110.3 "Elefantenexpress", TRI, Ep. VI Product Details

Märklin 88417 Z Class 110.3 "Elephant Express" Electric Locomotive, TRI, Ep. VI - Anniversary Model for Z Gauge

The electric locomotive 110 469-4 from TRI Train Rental was given a special paint scheme for the 50th anniversary of the popular blue elephant from the "Sendung mit der Maus" show. The colorful "Elephant Express" shows the well-known characters mouse, elephant and duck on a journey and at the birthday party. The ceremonial presentation of this unique locomotive took place on January 8, 2025 at Cologne Central Station. Since then, the locomotive has been in use throughout Germany, causing a stir on the rails. This gives railroad fans the opportunity to take spectacular photos of this unique locomotive.

The role model: The class 110 - a German cult locomotive

The class 110 electric locomotive is one of the best-known German locomotives. Originally developed for the express train service of the German Federal Railways, this locomotive proved its versatility over the decades. The so-called creased locomotive body, which gives it an aerodynamic design, is particularly striking. Locomotive 110 469-4 is part of the Train Rental GmbH (TRI) fleet and was given the eye-catching special livery for the anniversary of the elephant from the "Sendung mit der Maus" TV show in 2025.

Spectacular design for the anniversary

The locomotive features a lovingly designed livery with the popular characters from "Sendung mit der Maus" - the mouse, the elephant and the duck. The characters are depicted in a cheerful design while traveling and at the birthday party. This special design makes the locomotive not only a highlight on the tracks, but also a coveted collector's item for model railroad fans.

Märklin - True to detail and precision in Z scale

The Märklin 88417 Z class 110.3 electric locomotive will impress you with its high precision and excellent workmanship. Despite its compact size, the locomotive has finely detailed components. A particularly high-quality bell-shaped armature motor ensures smooth and powerful running. The model is also equipped with electric overhead line operation, with the switchover screw for overhead line operation concealed inside. This allows realistic operation on Z-gauge layouts.

Era VI - A modern prototype for the model railway

Era VI covers the period from 2007 onwards and represents current railroad operations. The "Elefantenexpress" is a perfect example of the reuse of historical locomotives in modern times. With its eye-catching design, the locomotive clearly stands out from other vehicles and provides special accents on the model railway layout.

Technical Equipment and Lighting

The Märklin 88417 Z Class 110.3 "Elephant Express" electric locomotive is equipped with modern LED lighting. The locomotive has a white light change that changes automatically with the direction of travel. Both bogies are powered, giving the locomotive a high tractive force. The dark nickel-plated wheel rims provide an elegant look and also improve the power consumption.

Running characteristics and power system

This model is designed for operation with 3-wire alternating current (AC) and can be operated using both track voltage and a functioning overhead line. This ensures flexible application possibilities and realistic operating sequences.

Color scheme and design

The locomotive is presented in a unique special livery for the anniversary of the "Sendung mit der Maus". The mouse, elephant and duck figures are depicted in a colorful design that clearly sets the locomotive apart from conventional railroad vehicles. This makes them an absolute eye-catcher on any Z-gauge model railway layout.

Quality and attention to detail

As usual with Märklin, this model also impresses with the highest precision and robust workmanship. The combination of high-quality materials and the finest details ensures a realistic reproduction of the real locomotive. Thanks to the powerful bell-shaped armature motor, the locomotive has excellent running characteristics and impresses with its smooth, sensitive operation.

Care and maintenance

The wheels and pantographs should be cleaned regularly to ensure that the locomotive has a long service life. Dust deposits can be removed with a soft brush or compressed air. If necessary, the motor bearings can be lubricated with a suitable model railroad oil.

Conclusion: A must for collectors and Z-gauge enthusiasts

The Märklin 88417 Z class 110.3 "Elephant Express" electric locomotive is a unique collector's item and an asset to any Z-gauge model railroad layout. With its unusual design, modern technical features and high-quality workmanship, it is a real highlight. The locomotive not only brings back nostalgic memories of the "Sendung mit der Maus", but also provides an impressive driving experience in model railroad operation. A unique opportunity to experience a piece of modern railroad history in Z scale!
