With the Piko 22045, PIKO brings the powerful shunting locomotive BR 296 in the traffic red appearance of the DB freight division Railion to your H0 layout - fully digitized and with factory-installed PSD XP sound decoder. The Era VI version of this modern, remote-controlled shunting locomotive stands for efficiency, flexibility and technical detail at the highest level.

As a further development of the V 90, the class 296 was created by converting 295 locomotives with a modern control system and remote control technology - especially for single wagon traffic in shunting and transfer service. Today, the locomotives are irreplaceable in the DB Cargo fleet and are used daily in freight hubs, sidings and on lines.

Digital technology & sound equipment

The model is equipped with a PluX22 sound decoder ex works. The PIKO XP decoder offers authentic sounds such as diesel engine start, shunting functions, compressor, horn, driving and braking noises - for a realistic sound experience on your DC digital system.

Lighting & digital functions

The locomotive has white/red light changes depending on the direction of travel as well as digitally switchable driver's cab lighting and shunting lighting. The driver's desk is also illuminated. The characteristic remote control lighting on the driver's cab is also reproduced on the model - a unique visual feature.

Detailing & equipment

The model shines with a true-to-original Voith fan wheel, intricate engravings and numerous attached details. Brake hoses and coupling hooks are included for optional self-assembly - for a prototypical appearance in service or showcase use.

Technology & compatibility

The locomotive measures 165 mm over buffers and runs smoothly through radii from 358 mm. Thanks to two traction tires, it has excellent tractive power - even with heavy freight trains. The locomotive is equipped with NEM shafts and close coupler link and can be reliably combined with all standard wagons.

Prototype & area of use

The class 296 is indispensable on German tracks: in freight yards, for feeder services to industrial tracks or on transfers. The model is perfectly suited for Era VI layouts with a focus on modern freight traffic, automated operations and realistic shunting scenarios.
