With the Piko 22082, PIKO presents the powerful-sounding version of the legendary diesel locomotive MZ of the Danish State Railways (DSB) in Era IV. Equipped with a factory-fitted PSD XP sound decoder, this model delivers authentic sound and prototypical detailing - a must for fans of Nordic diesel power.

The locomotives of the MZ series, delivered in four series between 1967 and 1978, were manufactured by the Swedish company NOHAB in Trollhättan under license from the General Motors Electro-Motive Division (EMD). With their robust construction, high tractive power and characteristic American-Scandinavian design, they were used in both heavy freight train service and express train service - a real backbone of Danish railroad traffic in the 1970s.

The PIKO XP sound decoder is installed ex works and offers a comprehensive sound pattern - from the typical EMD diesel engine to braking and driving noises and numerous switchable sound functions. The locomotive is immediately ready for digital use with DCC systems.

Lighting & digital functions

The equipment includes a white/red light change depending on the direction of travel, digitally switchable driver's cab lighting and an illuminated driver's desk. These functions ensure a particularly realistic appearance - by day and by night.

Detailing & true to the original

The model features numerous fine details: front sockets, steam heating hoses, attached tank nozzles, fine spring assemblies as well as handles and steps. Brake hoses and coupling hooks are included as accessories for further detailing.

Technical data & compatibility

With a length over buffers of 241 mm and a minimum radius of 358 mm, the locomotive is ideal for realistic train compositions on spacious H0 layouts. Two traction tires ensure reliable traction. Thanks to the NEM shaft with close coupler link, the locomotive is compatible with all standard wagons.

Prototype & area of application

The class MZ was used for passenger and freight traffic throughout Denmark. In Era IV, it was a permanent fixture in long-distance service between Copenhagen and Jutland as well as in domestic freight service. Even after its retirement, it remains in international service - a real endurance runner.
