With the Piko 52120 BR 228 diesel locomotive in the "economy paint" version, PIKO presents an impressive AC version of the six-axle locomotive of the Deutsche Reichsbahn in Era V. The model combines powerful technology with authentic design and faithfully reproduces a particularly striking design of the former V 180 family - including true-to-original transitional lettering from the reunification period.

Unmistakable appearance of the six-axle V 180 variant

In contrast to the four-axle version, the BR 228 has three-axle bogies and a different arrangement of the fans and windows. This version was developed for heavier train services and was used on many DR main lines. The "economy paint scheme" with a reduced ornamental line concept is symbolic of the appearance in the last years of service under transitional administration to DB AG.

Technology at the highest level - ex works with sound

The model is equipped with a factory-installed PIKO PSD XP sound decoder including a large loudspeaker. The powerful sound of the BR 228 is thus impressively accentuated. The direction of travel-dependent light change in white/red and the digital controllability round off the overall picture functionally.

Prototypical implementation and technical reliability

The locomotive has a length over buffers of 224 mm, two traction tires and already runs on a minimum radius of 358 mm.
