With the Piko 52380 M44 diesel locomotive, PIKO is bringing an iconic piece of European railroad history to the model railroad layout in H0 scale. Developed in the 1950s, the M44 was the backbone of the shunting and light freight traffic of the Hungarian state railroad MÁV and was also valued internationally due to its reliability and performance. This model impresses with its powerful appearance, technical sophistication and prototypical details.

Unmistakable prototype with well thought-out design

The distinctive design with driver's cab at the end of the vehicle, practical gangways for the shunting personnel and the characteristic MÁV-style exhaust make the M44 an unmistakable appearance. The PIKO model implements this design with high precision - supplemented by attached sand boxes, sand pipes, brake shoes as well as enclosed brake hoses and coupling hooks for individual refinement.

Ideal for shunting tasks and branch line operation

With a length over buffers of 130 mm and a minimum radius of 358 mm, the locomotive is perfectly suited for use on compact layouts. The robust design reflects the prototype function of the locomotive, which was used on factory and industrial railroads as well as on transfer runs and branch lines.

Digital equipment and retrofittable sound

The model is equipped with a PluX22 interface, making it easy to retrofit a PIKO sound decoder (#56646). Digitally switchable cab lighting is already integrated, which, together with the direction of travel-dependent light change in white/red, provides atmospheric effects on your layout.

Technical equipment for modern layouts

With two traction tires, the locomotive offers good tractive power for shunting and short freight trains. The NEM coupler pocket with close coupler link enables a secure connection to other vehicles. The illuminated driver's desk further emphasizes the fine features of this model.
