Piko 52387 H0 Diesellok Sm41, PKP, Ep. IV Product Details
Piko 52387 H0 Diesel locomotive Sm41, PKP, Ep. IV - Proven diesel technology for the Polish shunting service
With the Piko 52387 Sm41 diesel locomotive, PIKO presents a model that traces an important chapter in Polish railroad history in H0 scale. The Sm41 - a further development of the Hungarian M44 - was introduced by the PKP at the end of the 1950s and from then on dominated the scene in the shunting yards of Era IV. This model impresses with its attention to detail and technical equipment as well as the many possible uses on the layout.
Historically sound model with proven technology
At a time when many Polish railroad depots were still working with steam shunting locomotives, the M44 proved to be the ideal interim solution. The Polish variant, known as the SM40/Sm41, was adapted to national standards - including radio equipment and safety modifications. Its use extended from the major junctions in Warsaw and Gdańsk to industrial sidings and branch lines throughout the country.
Precise implementation with numerous applied details
The model shows the ribbed body design of the Sm41 and impresses with an illuminated driver's desk and digitally switchable driver's cab lighting (decoder required). Furthermore, attached sand boxes, sand pipes, brake shoes, additional equipment such as air conditioning unit, external tank, horn, angular sockets, an exhaust according to MAV design, PKP antenna as well as fine handrails and steps are part of the equipment - a prototype model for detail lovers!
Technically prepared for digital and sound operation
The locomotive is equipped with an NEM 658 PluX22 interface and can be easily digitized. Retrofitting of a PIKO sound decoder (#56646) is also possible, making the model not only visually impressive, but also acoustically. The direction-dependent light change in white/red rounds off the harmonious equipment.
Solid technology for reliable model railroad operation
With a clearance of 130 mm, two traction tires for good traction and an NEM shaft with close coupler link, the locomotive is suitable for almost all H0 DC layouts. Its small footprint makes it ideal for shunting tasks, transfer runs and branch line operation.
