The Piko H0 class 228 diesel locomotive in the Cargo Logistic Rail version combines classic GDR traction unit technology with modern private railroad use. Originally used by the Deutsche Reichsbahn as the V 180 in high-quality passenger and freight train service, the locomotive experienced a second life as class 228 with various private railroad companies after the fall of the Berlin Wall. This model shows the six-axle version with the current appearance of Era VI.

Rich in detail and robust for modern layouts

The locomotive is equipped with free-standing handrails, finely detailed bogies and a high headlight. The six-axle design not only ensures an impressive appearance, but also stands for the great tractive power of the prototype. The direction of travel-dependent light change in white/red is integrated as standard. The model can be digitally retrofitted via an NEM 652 interface.

Class 228 - Versatility from GDR production

The V 180 or later BR 228 was the first large diesel locomotive with bogies in the GDR and a true universal locomotive. Whether in fast passenger service or in front of freight trains - it proved itself over decades. In Era VI, many of these locomotives continue to operate on private railroads such as Cargo Logistic Rail - now with modernized technology and a fresh paint scheme.

Thanks to the NEM 652 interface, the model can be digitally upgraded quickly. A PIKO sound decoder (#56557) can be retrofitted as an option and brings the characteristic engine sounds of the BR 228 to your layout.
