Description

Roco 78463 electric locomotive 116 006-8, DB, Ep. IV (incl. sound) AC current/AC Product Details

About the model: The 116 006 electric locomotive is a German Federal Railroad model and is from Era IV. It is 187 mm long (length over buffers) and has a digital interface. The model is factory-equipped with a sound decoder. The locomotive is powered by 4 axles and 1 is equipped with traction tires. All other details about this model can be found under the features.

About the prototype: The class E 16 was the only German locomotive type with Buchli propulsion. After a lengthy tendering phase, the Bavarian group administration of the Deutsche Reichsbahn ordered first one and then, after an intensive trial period, 16 additional express electric locomotives from BBC in 1923 for its main lines planned for electrification, which were to receive the type designation ES 1. The machines with the axle arrangement 1'Do1' were moved by a single-axle drive arranged on one side, which had been developed by the Swiss engineer Buchli and worked satisfactorily in the SBB series Ae 3/6Ë¡. In the 52 years of service of the series, which was named E 16 after the newly introduced designation system and 116 from 1968, this type of drive proved itself very well, despite extensive maintenance. The locomotives were said to be extremely smooth-running. In 1929, the Reichsbahn procured another four locomotives from Krauss and BBC. As they had undergone some changes compared to the first locomotives, including to the frame and body, these vehicles were given the series designation E 16.1. The 120 km/h locomotives achieved an hourly output of 2,340/2,580 kW and a continuous output of 2,020/2,400 kW. In the first few years of operation, the E 16's tasks included high-quality express trains from Munich, mostly hauling express and express trains in Bavaria and to Austria. At the height of their career, the locomotives hauled three F trains, including the F 5/6 Orient Express, as well as 42 pairs of D trains. At the end of 1958, the Bundesbahn pulled all E 16s together at Freilassing depot. Until the 1970s, it was impossible to do without these reliable locomotives, which were also able to enjoy optimum care and maintenance in Freilassing. The scheduled use of this class ended in 1978.

EDITION FREILASSING: Under the "Edition Freilassing" label, selected models from the former Freilassing depot will be reproduced over the next few years. In 1905, the first locomotives, still steam locomotives at the time, moved into the engine shed with its 20 tracks. Around 20 years later, the electric locomotive workshop was built, followed by further buildings in the years that followed. ROCO also has a close relationship with the Bavarian town of Freilassing, as the first German sales office was located here. Look forward to the models in this unique edition!
