Description

Artitec 20.323.13 H0 Heavy-Duty Flat Car SSyms46 041-0, PKP, Era IV Product Details

Artitec 20.323.13 H0 Heavy-Duty Flat Car SSyms46 041-0, PKP, Era IV

The Artitec SSyms46 041-0 heavy-duty flat car is a six-axle heavy-duty car of the SSyms type and is classified as Era IV. The model is designed for H0 scale and represents a PKP car. Thanks to its special design, this car type is one of the most distinctive flat cars for transporting exceptionally heavy loads.

Starting in 1942, the SSyms heavy-duty flat cars were an essential part of the Deutsche Reichsbahn’s logistics during World War II. They were specifically developed for transporting tanks and other armored vehicles, as these could not be transported using conventional freight cars due to their heavy weight. The six-axle design ensured even load distribution and made it possible to transport extremely heavy vehicles on the rail network.

Historical Use and Postwar Application

After the end of World War II, the SSyms heavy-duty freight cars remained in service. Instead of being decommissioned, they were put to use for new transportation tasks. In the postwar period, these cars were primarily used to transport heavy industrial equipment and military vehicles. As a result, they continued to play an important role in freight transport in later decades.

During Era IV, SSyms heavy-duty freight cars were in service with various national railways, including the PKP. This model depicts this period of service and is suitable for representing heavy special transports within corresponding freight trains. Thanks to its robust construction, the car stands out clearly from classic flat cars or standard freight cars.

Model Characteristics and Technical Classification

The heavy-duty flatcar is designed for operation on DC layouts; AC wheel sets are also available as an alternative. This allows the model to be flexibly integrated into various layout concepts. The generously sized loading area is typical for this type of car and underscores its design for exceptionally heavy and bulky cargo.

With a length over buffers of 200 mm, the car fits to scale in H0-gauge trains. The length of the loading area is 136 mm, highlighting its suitability for heavy machinery, military vehicles, or large industrial components.

Use in H0 scale

In H0 scale, the SSyms heavy-duty flat car is particularly well-suited for freight trains with a military or industrial focus. It can be used as a single specialty car or as part of a heavy-haul train. Thanks to its striking design, it quickly becomes an eye-catcher within a train formation.

The model allows for the realistic depiction of historical and post-war heavy-haul transports and expands the rolling stock with a car type that, while rare, was of great logistical importance.
