Artitec 20.323.14 H0 Heavy-Duty Flat Car SSyms46 068-3, PKP, Era IV Product Details

Artitec 20.323.14 H0 Heavy-Duty Flat Car SSyms46 068-3, PKP, Era IV

The Artitec SSyms46 068-3 Heavy-Duty Flat Car is a six-axle heavy-duty car of the SSyms type and is classified as Era IV. The model is designed for H0 scale and replicates a PKP car. The car is designed as a special-purpose vehicle and exemplifies the use of heavy flat cars in freight and special transport.

Starting in 1942, the SSyms heavy-duty flat cars were an essential part of the Deutsche Reichsbahn’s logistics. They were developed specifically for the transport of particularly heavy and bulky loads. These included, above all, tanks and other armored vehicles whose weight and dimensions precluded the use of conventional freight cars. The six-axle design distributed the heavy load evenly and enabled these vehicles to be transported on the rail network.

Historical Background and Subsequent Use

After the end of World War II, the SSyms heavy-haul cars remained in service. The existing cars were not taken out of service but were repurposed for new tasks. In the postwar period, they were primarily used to transport heavy industrial equipment and military vehicles. As a result, these cars retained their importance in rail freight transport even in later decades.

In Era IV, the SSyms cars found their place in the regular freight service of the state railways, including the PKP. This model captures this period of service and allows for the depiction of heavy hauls within corresponding train formations. Due to its design, the car stands out clearly from classic flatcars or stake cars.

Model Implementation and Technical Classification

The heavy-duty flatcar is designed for operation on DC layouts; AC wheel sets are also available as an alternative. This allows the model to be flexibly integrated into various layout concepts. The loading area offers sufficient space for heavy and bulky cargo, as is characteristic of this type of car.

With a length over buffers of 200 mm, the car fits to scale in H0-gauge trains and, despite its compact model dimensions, conveys the impression of a high-performance specialty car. The loading area is 136 mm long, highlighting the focus on transporting large loads.

Use in H0 gauge

In H0 scale, the SSyms Heavy-Duty Flat Car is particularly well-suited for freight trains with a military or industrial focus. It can be used both individually and in combination with other special-purpose cars. Thanks to its distinctive design, it quickly becomes an eye-catcher within a train.

The model allows for the realistic depiction of historical and post-war heavy-haul transports and expands the fleet with a car type that was rarely seen in regular freight traffic but played an important logistical role.
