Artitec 20.284.21 H0 Schwerlastwagen SSy55 Rlmmps650 072-3, DB, Ep. IV Product Details

Artitec 20.284.21 H0 Heavy-Duty Freight Car SSy55 Rlmmps650 072-3, DB, Era IV – Transition from Military to DB Vehicle

The Artitec 20.284.21 H0 Heavy-Duty Freight Car SSy55 Rlmmps650 072-3 represents an interesting chapter in German railway history: the transition of special-purpose military vehicles into civilian freight service with the Deutsche Bundesbahn. This Era IV model shows how the formerly military-use heavy-duty freight car was integrated into the regular rail network—and does so with impressive attention to detail in H0 scale.

Origins in the U.S. Military, Service with the DB

The original SSy55 was procured around 1955 by the U.S. Army Transportation Corps (USATC) for use by U.S. forces stationed in Germany. The robust designs were ideally suited for transporting heavy military equipment and vehicles. As infrastructure expanded and security policies changed, many of these cars later entered the inventory of the Deutsche Bundesbahn and were incorporated into regular daily operations there.

Rlmmps650 – New Designation, Proven Technology

With the restructuring of the DB’s rolling stock fleet during Era IV, many of these vehicles received new class designations. The SSy55 was continued as the Rlmmps650 and now served civilian heavy-haul transport. The Artitec 20.284.21 accurately depicts this transition and is perfectly suited for model railway scenarios from the 1970s and 1980s.

Prototype-accurate model for realistic layouts

Artitec impresses here as well with its attention to detail: the finely crafted textures, the accurate paint scheme, and the authentic lettering make the model appear lifelike and realistic. The car is particularly attractive when used in mixed freight trains, at loading stations, or as a carrier of heavy industrial or military goods on your layout.

Era IV – Industrialization and Change

Era IV was characterized by technical advancement, increasing automation, and the Europe-wide integration of rail transport. The SSy55 Rlmmps650 072-3 fits seamlessly into this era and offers exciting possibilities for depicting historically accurate railway scenes.

A must-have for history-oriented model railroaders

Those who value authentic vehicles with a traceable history will find the Artitec 20.284.21 to be a compelling model. It tells the story of the transformation of a military vehicle into civilian use—a rare combination that should not be missing from any well-stocked Era IV layout.
