Bemo 1008898 steam locomotive VII K 99 758 der DR Ep. III Product Details
Metal Collection, Ep. III
In 1881, the Royal Saxon State Railway (K.Sä.Sts.B.) opened the first of a total of 30 narrow-gauge railroads. A track gauge of 750 mm was chosen for the majority of the 561 km long network. The steep gradients and winding lines soon became a challenge for many locomotive builders: the double locomotive II K imported from England, the III K with the Klose engine, the articulated locomotive IV K type Meyer or the V K with Klien-Lindner hollow axles had engine designs that required a lot of maintenance. It was only with the VI K, procured in 1918 for the former army field railroads, that powerful and - with laterally displaceable wheelsets of the Gölsdorf system - simply constructed 750 mm machines arrived. Emerging signs of wear forced the DR to modernize and reboiler some locomotives from 1963 onwards. Nevertheless, the VI K disappeared from service in 1975, not least due to the high axle loads. Today, the 1'E 1' unit locomotives procured by the DRG and DR dominate.
